Tom Hanks-5-1024x767Hanks was seen with Ron Howard in his next role, as commander and astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 (1995). The film was widely lauded by critics in addition to the performance of the whole team (which included Kevin Bacon and Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris) as well as Kathleen Quinlan. The film earned nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Hanks played the role of Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated feature Toy Story (1995). The following year Hanks made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! The story follows the fall and rise of a 1960s rock group. Hanks is also in the role of music producer. The Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming" and many critics agree that Hanks' performance earned him a spot among the top romantic-comedy stars in his generation.
